Is tooth extraction painful?

No one wants to hear that they need a tooth extraction, and our dental team will do everything possible to help you keep your natural teeth for a lifetime.

But if that isn’t possible because of infection or another dental concern, we offer gentle tooth removal in our Belmont dental clinic.

Is Tooth Extraction Painful?

Although you may feel pressure during a tooth extraction, you should not experience any pain. Before we begin the procedure, we administer a local anaesthetic, completely numbing the area.

Once we remove your tooth, we’ll explain what you should do when you get home. You may have some minor swelling and discomfort, but usually over-the-counter pain medication and ice packs will be enough to keep you comfortable.

Also, try to eat soft foods and avoid chewing on the extraction site until it has time to heal.

To avoid a dry socket, don’t smoke or drink from a straw, and to keep the area clean, rinse with warm salt water beginning the day after your procedure.
