New Patient Comprehensive Examination in Belmont

mother, daughter, and grandmother smilingOur new patient examination is a one-hour comprehensive oral health wellness assessment developed to empower, educate and inspire you with positive feelings about your dental care and visits.

At Ageless Smiles Dental Centre, we love getting to know you, so relaxed conversations about your lifestyle, physical health, your concerns and your smile dreams happen before we begin your dental health examinations.

We strive to provide optimal dental care and this can only be done with the aid of x-rays to help detect decay, infection and view areas between the teeth or hidden below the gum line.

At Ageless Smiles Dental Centre, we take digital x-rays which are higher in definition but lower in radiation. This, in conjunction with high-definition scans of your teeth and digital photos, not only provides a valuable record of your dental health, but gives you an opportunity to be able to visualise any issues or areas of concern occurring in your mouth.

Good oral health requires healthy gums, so all our patients receive a comprehensive gum health examination and gum disease analysis.

We complete your wellness exam by assessing your jaw joint and muscles for clenching, grinding or other related issues and administering a quick oral cancer screening.

From examinations to conversations, our next steps are to give you options for any treatment you may require, answer your questions and provide you with any additional information you may need. In consultation with you, a personalised treatment plan will be developed to help you feel confident about managing your oral health and attending your next visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

The two main reasons we lose teeth are decay and gum disease. Even with the best daily brushing and flossing techniques, plaque between the teeth and along the gum line can be missed. Over time, this plaque begins to harden and eventually turns into tartar. When left for an extended period of time, this buildup of tartar and plaque begins to develop into gum disease or cavities.

Professional dental cleaning removes all the tartar and plaque from your teeth and gums to assist you with maintaining a healthy and bright smile.

Your smile is unique, and so are your dental needs.

In general, we recommend a dental examination and clean every six months for early detection of any dental issues. Catching and attending to decay and signs of gum disease in their early stages prevents these conditions from developing into more serious problems. Not only will this save you from the potential of experiencing unexpected pain, but it will also save you time and money in the long run.

Patients with risk factors such as diabetes, smoking, pregnancy or a history of gum disease can often benefit from having more frequent visits. Floss bosses with great oral hygiene require less frequent visits. At Ageless Smiles Dental Centre, we tailor our recommendations to ensure your smile gets the right care at the right time, keeping it bright, healthy, and ageless.

We strive to provide optimal dental care, and sometimes this can only be done with the aid of x-rays to help detect decay, infection, and view areas between the teeth or hidden below the gum line.

We understand the concern and reluctance around having x-rays taken. However, at Ageless Smiles Dental Centre, we take digital x-rays, which are higher in definition but lower in radiation. Rest assured, we only recommend x-rays when absolutely essential to your dental health.

Decay in its early stages usually isn’t painful. It is once the decay has extended past the tooth's protective enamel layer into the dentin and beyond that things become sensitive and tender. As decay progresses closer to the nerves of a tooth, the pain begins to intensify and, if left untreated, can turn into a raging toothache. Once it reaches this point, a simple filling may no longer be possible. Attending to a cavity as soon as possible is always encouraged and recommended.

To ensure you receive the required amount of time to attend to your dental needs, please arrange a dedicated appointment time with us. We regret we are unable to squeeze additional patients into our day, as we pride ourselves on reserving appointment lengths which enable us to deliver our dentistry in a calm and unrushed manner.

Preventative Care Examination

Regular preventative care examinations are usually required every six months to enable early detection of dental problems, including decay, gum disease, infection or jaw-related conditions. Patients with a higher risk of potential conditions may need more frequent visits of three or four months and those with lower risk may only require annual visits. Our dentists will recommend how often a patient needs to attend based on your unique individual oral health.

During your preventative care appointment, our dentists will always provide an oral cancer screening and typically a professional scale and polish too. If necessary, fluoride may be applied to the teeth and x-rays taken.

Studies have proven that good oral hygiene can help to prevent dental issues from arising so we always ensure we leave ample time to discuss your at home dental care and of course we have preventive care visit goodies to go!

Professional Scale & Clean

belmont woman smiling while holding her cell phoneThe buildup of plaque and bacteria on and around the teeth and gums can cause a number of dental issues, including decay, gum disease, bad breathe and bone loss so it’s important to have your teeth professionally cleaned as recommended by your dentist.

At Ageless Smiles Dental Centre you will experience a comfortable clean which is as gentle as it is thorough. We use a combination of hand instruments and ultrasonic scalers to remove calculus above and below the gum line, finishing with your choice of polishing paste, so your teeth and mouth will leave feeling and looking fabulous!

Fissure Sealants

Dental fissure sealants are applied to act as a physical protection from tooth decay and are sometimes recommended when there are large grooves or pits in the molar teeth. This type of preventative dental treatment is usually provided for children but some adults may also benefit from sealants. Fissure sealants are durable, white in colour, quick to apply and don’t require an anaesthetic.

Fluoride Applications

Fluoride applications are an effective preventative dental treatment used to support and protect tooth enamel from plaque that causes dental decay. Professional fluoride applications contain a higher concentration of fluoride than is present in our toothpaste or water. Recommended for patients with a high risk of developing dental decay, fluoride is applied to the teeth and painlessly absorbed within 30 minutes to assist with restoring minerals on the surfaces of the teeth.
